The trend of re-releasing old Bollywood films to cinemas is picking up speed, with movies like Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, Bareilly Ki Barfi, and Sanam Teri Kasam enticing viewers back to the cinema halls. Sanam Teri Kasam, for instance, has already outperformed its original box office figures within days of its re-release. With this wave of nostalgia, rumors are abound of possible sequels to blockbusters such as Jannat (2008) and Awarapan (2007).
Fanning the speculation fire, Emraan Hashmi shared on Instagram the other day a mysterious animated teaser, and the fans were left abuzz.
The teaser shows an animated image of his legendary character from Awarapan, gazing out at a cityscape with a caged pigeon beside him. His rich, recognizable voice is heard in the background, reciting an intense monologue: “I have seen death up close. Living for someone else is the only purpose of my life.”
Hashmi merely captioned the post: “Jummah Mubarak,” letting fans wonder—could Awarapan 2 be on the cards?
