The Personnel Ministry issued an order on March 29 confirming her appointment. She takes over the role with immediate effect. Tewari will serve in Level 12 of the pay matrix on a co-terminus basis or until further orders.

Tewari hails from Mehmurganj in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. Varanasi has been Prime Minister Modi’s Lok Sabha constituency since 2014. She cleared the Civil Services Examination in 2013, securing the 96th rank. Before joining the IFS, she worked as an Assistant Commissioner (Commercial Tax) in Varanasi while preparing for the UPSC exam.

Tewari has a strong background in foreign policy and security affairs. She served in the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) before joining the PMO. She directly reported to National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval.
